My Dream Job

Well, it's official. I have a new job. I have accepted the position of organizing, cooking, cleaning, and teaching my children full time.

Ever since we had Talan, it has been my dream to be at home, but we have never been able to swing it financially. We are taking a leap of faith and giving this a go. We have been praying a lot that God show us what we are supposed to do. There have been many signs and things aligning that have brought us to this decision God has been very good to us and we have faith that there is a plan for us. Don't get me wrong, I love teaching. However, my kids are growing up too fast and we feel it's important to instill our values and lessons in our kids.

Yay for our new adventure ahead!!

(On a side note, I have a lot of pictures to upload and share. Unfortunately, my computer is acting goofy. Once we get it worked out, be ready for some serious cuteness!)

The Results

Today we went to see Dr. Barletta at Phoenix Children's Hospital to check on Kenton's kidneys.

I have to say that I was very impressed with the efficiency of her office.  We were there a half hour early to fill out paperwork and were called back immediately.  The nurse put a bag over Kenton's penis to try to catch another urine sample.  She then attempted to take his blood pressure, but his arm was too small for their cuff.  We then took his measurements ... 20 1/4 inches long (49%) and he gained 12 ounces, which makes his weight be 7 pounds 5 ounces (19%).

I decided to take the opportunity to feed Kenton because I figured it would be a while before we actually saw the doctor and she walked in within 10 minutes.  She did a quick check of Kenton and said that he looked really good.  She was very happy that he did not look swollen and that he had gained weight.

Dr. Barletta said that she wanted to send us to the lab to get more blood work done and wanted to run Kenton's urine to check the protein.  I asked about the lab work that I took Kenton for last week and it turns out that the lab didn't do the proper tests so she needed to gather some more information.  She wrote the orders and then checked to see if Kenton had used the restroom yet.  Luckily he had and she could check his urine right in the office.

Within a couple of minutes, Dr. Barletta was back with the results - THERE WAS NO PROTEIN IN HIS URINE AT ALL!!!  :)  Since there was no protein and he looked good, she no longer felt like it was necessary to do the blood work.  Overall, FANTASTIC news that we have been praying for the past 6 months!!!

We go back in another month to do another urine test and to do an ultrasound on Kenton's kidneys.  Ever since our first ultrasound, one of Kenton's kidneys was retaining too much urine.  We were told initially that this was typical for boys and that it usually resolved itself before birth.  Since I got weekly ultrasounds during my NSTs, this was monitored and it never was really resolved.  Dr. Barletta wants to check in on this when we go back, which is the purpose of the ultrasound.

Since Finnish Nephrosis is not usually found until children show signs of malnourishment, Dr. Barletta wants to be overly cautious for the first couple of months.  We will continue to see her once a month until Kenton is at least 3 months old.  Hopefully, at that point, he will officially have the "all clear" and we won't ever have to go back.

I think back to when we first got this potential diagnosis and when I was asked if I wanted to terminate my pregnancy.  I am so happy to say that was not an option for us.  I could not imagine our life without Mr. Kenton.  Although it's only been 2 weeks, it feels like Kenton has been part of our family for a long time and I can't imagine life without him.

Thank you to everyone who has kept our family in your prayers.  I cannot express to you all how much your love and support has meant to us through this challenge.

God is AWESOME!!  :)

Tomorrow's the Day

After a long 5-6 months, tomorrow is the day that all of our questions regarding Kenton should be answered ... hopefully.

Last Tuesday, I took Kenton to get another urine test and blood drawn for a full renal panel. Tomorrow, we meet with Dr. Barletta at Phoenix Children's Hospital to find out the results.

If possible, please keep our family in your prayers. Please pray for strength and guidance no matter what the results. In our mind, we have a perfect angel baby and we could not imagine him being any different than he is.
